Fiji Meat Industry Board to be privatised

The Fiji Meat Industry Board (FMIB), which covers slaughtering activities in Viti Levu and operates two abattoirs in Vuda and Suva and a subsidiary company, the Fiji Tannery, is to be privatised and will be declared a Commercial Statutory Authority (CSA). It currently comes under the administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Sugar and Land Resettlement.

Announcing the decision, the government stated that the FMIB is a commercial enterprise which has the ability to operate as an autonomous self sustaining entity”, adding that the Ministry of Agriculture is not geared to oversee such commercial enterprises.
