Counterfeit clothing and accessories cost $163 million in first half of 2005

According to a report on counterfeiting activities around the globe, in the first six months of 2005, counterfeiters stole more than $201 million from brand and IP owners then attempted to steal another $162 Million before being caught, according to data released by Gieschen Consultancy.

In the clothing and accessories sectors, 114 incidents worth $163 Million were discovered, ranking number five on the list of the most counterfeited goods behind financial instruments, entertainment and software, identification, and other documents.

Louis Vuitton is the most widely counterfeited clothing and accessory brand, followed by Nike, Gucci, adidas, and Burberry.
