06/09/2005

Russian leather supplier, Ryazan Tannery, has become a SATRA Member and will look to SATRA to help the company in its development of finished leather. SATRA’s industry-accepted leather grading systems and laboratory accreditation were essential factors on the decision to join the SATRA’s global network.

The tannery is located in the city of Ryazan (180 km. southeast of Moscow) and was first established in 1916. After Mikhail Gorbachev introduced perestroika (restructuring) to

Russia, a new tannery was built in 1988 using Italian technical support.

It is now the largest tannery in Europe, employing over 2,000 staff and producing different types of finished leather, crust, wet-white and wet blue hides The company supplies garment, upholstery and automobile leathers, though the manufacture of footwear leather is its main direction.
