India's leather exports increase by 2%
According to figures released by Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry, during the period of April-May (2005) leather footwear exports rose by 17.11% to $99.88 million from $ 85.29 million, followed by footwear components up by 9.06% to $21.22 million from $19.46 million, leather goods by 6.14% to $91.46 million from $86.16 million, saddlery and harness by 11.15% to $10.04 million from $9.04 million, and non-leather footwear by 4.26% to $8.21 million from $7.87 compared to the same period last year.
But exports of finished leather fell by 10.68% to $87.91 million from $98.42 million and leather garments 18.72% to $23.08 million from $29.62 million in April-May 2004.
