Pakistan leather exports forecast to exceed $1 billion

According to the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers’ & Exporters’ Association forecasts show that Pakistan’s leather exports are set to cross the $1 billion mark for the first time ever in 2005-06. Exports in 2004-05 reached $883 million which is highest ever export recorded and if the growth trend continues, it is likely that a new record will be set. 

In 2004-2005, the highest increase was posted in the export of leather gloves which reached $152 million, a 115% increase compared with the previous year.

The country also recorded a 64% increase in leather goods exports to $22 million and a 22% increase in footwear exports to $96 million.
