Bangladesh exports rise, but leather exports miss target

08/08/2005

Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has said the country's overall exports grew 14% to nearly $8.7 billion in the last fiscal year 2004-05 (July-June), mainly due to an increase in volume coupled with a marginal rise in the value of products. The overall export earnings were $1,052 million higher than that of the previous fiscal year. The export target for the past year was fixed at US$ 8,566 million while the country gained more than one per cent surplus against the target.

It was reported that leather, woven garments, home textiles, and other primary commodities recorded growth, but failed to touch the target wall. Leather sector exports reached $221 million, 3.94% below the target of $230 million.
