01/08/2005

According to statistics released by Guangdong customs officials, in the first six months of 2005 (January to June), Guangdong exported 1.48 billion pairs of shoes worth $3.47 billion, an increase of 17.1% compared with the first half of 2004. This equates to 42.9% of the country’s entire shoe exports in terms of quantity and 41% in terms of value.

Of the shoes exported, rubber and plastic shoes accounted for the largest quantity of footwear exports at 910 million pairs (+19.2%) Leather upper shoes were the second largest at 370 million pairs (+9.4%).

However, despite the increase in exports, it is claimed that the net profit of shoe exporters based in Guangdong and other areas actually decreased.
