Mexa confirms growing Russian fur trade market

The recent Mexa fur exhibition, held in Moscow on June 30 – July 2, has confirmed the growing trend for fashion furs in Russia and internationally. The show featured big fur trading companies and leading fur designers who presented the latest colour trends.

 

According to The International Fur Trade Federation, global retail trade turnover in fur clothing, trimmings and accessories grew by 2.8% to $11.7 billion in 2004, attributed particularly to exceptional growth rates in Russia and China.

 

The Russian fur market in the largest in the world and the sale of furs has quadrupled in recent years. A further major growth of 5.5% in GNP is forecast in Russia for 2005. The purchasing power of the Russian population has seen a boom thanks to the high price of oil and continued economic growth.
