British School of Leather Technology secures university status

18/07/2005

After several years of continuous efforts, University College Northampton has been awarded formal university status and full research degree awarding powers, and the British School of Leather Technology, one of its departments, has played a large role in securing the new status.

Work on the glass transition temperature by Professor Attenburrow and on the mechanism of the tanning process by Professor Covington has gained significant reputation worldwide.

University rector, Mrs Ann Tate commented: “Having a university will provide a unique resource and bring extensive economic benefits to Northampton and the wider region, not only through the learning and skills development we can offer to individuals and employees, but also from the highly skilled graduate workforce, bespoke consultancy and research we can deliver.”
