CLE forecasts leather exports to reach $5 billion

15/07/2005

According to India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE), the country’s leather industry is set to expand to three times its current size over the next five years as a result of increased exports, which are set to reach $5 billion by 2010. However, growth is also expected to be driven by the rise in demand that is being witnessed in the domestic market.

To reach the target of $5.08 billion exports, the industry needs to report an annual growth of 13.5% in the sector, which will lead to India holding 4.5% of the global leather market compared with the 2.52% it currently holds.
