Elcio Jacometti re-elected president of Abicalçados

15/07/2005

Elcio Jacometti has been elected for his third consecutive term as president of Abicalçados, the Brazilian Association of Footwear Manufacturers.

He said that his priority for his new term, which will run until July 2007, will be to look for solutions to the problems facing the sector in terms of the international market.

Mr. Jacometti commented that despite its competitiveness, the sector is suffering because of macroeconomic policies such as the low dollar exchange rate against the real (-22% since August 2004) and the large volume of Asian footwear that is flooding the domestic market as well as other countries which are either traditional or potential buyers of Brazilian shoes. “These matters have been discussed at the association in the last few months and will become more important in the coming months," said Jacometti.
