Acquisition of Murgon Leather Co. Ltd by Teys Bros Holdings

11/07/2005

Confirming the purchase of Murgon Leather by Teys Bros Holdings, its chairman Mr Allan Teys, has stated that “The acquisition of the tannery is a positive step for the Teys Group as it strengthens our supply chain focus, and builds on the high quality manufacturing and customer alliance strategies that Murgon Leather has successfully employed in the past.“

The Teys Group was established in 1946 and is Australia’s second largest meat company, slaughtering over 85,000 cattle per month. Teys Bros operates six processing plants in Australia, four of which are based in Queensland and is Queensland’s largest private company.  It exports over 300,000 tonnes of beef per annum to over 40 countries and employs approximately 3,000 people.

Murgon Leather is centrally located to these plants and the company processes raw hides into a wet blue or salted state and direct exports to Europe and Asia, as well as having a strong domestic customer base.  The new ownership will provide a strong supply base which the company will utilise to enhance its reputation for high quality full substance or split wetblue hides, and selected and trimmed salted hides also tailored to specific end user requirements.  The company is well placed for significant growth and previously won the Premier of Queensland’s Regional Exporter of the Year for 2003.
