Iceman’s shoes reconstructed

11/07/2005

Petr Hlavacek, a Czech shoe expert, has created replicas of Oetzi’s shoes, the 5300-year old man found in an alpine glacier in 1991. The bulky hay-lined leather shoes, modelled at the original pair from the Mainz museum in Germany, turned out far better than expected. According to Mr Hlavacek, the shoes are very comfortable, offer good grip and superb shock absorption, and they are blister-free.
