Assomac and ICE, in collaboration with, the Iranian Ministry of Industry and Mines, and Assomes (the Iranian footwear association) held a footwear technology conference June 14 in Tehran. Approximately 150 representatives from Iranian companies attended the event which formed part of an initiative aimed at promoting Italian footwear, leather goods and tanning technology.

For more than two years, Assomac has been coordinating a collaboration project in Iran, created within the scope of the “Italian-Iranian Leather-Footwear Joint Work Group”.

The Work Group has organised numerous initiatives including: two general Work Group meetings (the first in Italy in 2003, the second in Iran in 2004); the presence since the autumn of 2002 of delegations of Iranian footwear and tanning operators at SIMAC and Tanning Tech; a training course in Italy for Iranian footwear factory directors; an inspection of 10 tanning companies and a tanning technology conference in Tehran; and competitive strategy training courses (Mae-Pisie) in Italy for 40 Iranian tanning and footwear company executives.

Iran supplies Italy with pickled or crust hides, while Italy supplies injection machinery for footwear, tanning machinery, moulds, polyurethane, etc. and chemical products to Iran.

ASSOMAC has also announced that Simac 2006 will take place one week earlier than normal and run from Wednesday 19 to Saturday 22 April. It will again be held in conjunction with Lineappelle, 19-21 April, at Bologna, Italy.
