Brazilian NBN Automação Industrial Ltd of Porto Alegre has recently launched its MDROLL VE, a compact, easy-to-move, precision leather measuring machine. The new machine was designed to be used mainly by garment and furniture manufacturers as well as any other type of business, including tanneries that use high quality leather and require accurate measuring when checking incoming deliveries.

André Nodari, director of operations at NBN, points out that besides providing exact measurements, the MDROLL VE can be easily moved to be used wherever the raw material needs to be measured. The machine is produced in two parts which are joined together on installation.

NBN has also launched SMARTTAN XP software for controlling the tanning process (development and use of recipes). SMARTTAN XP features PPC functions and is operated through a web navigator or browser.

Having evolved from the original SMARTTAN software, SMARTTAN XP offers a larger number of functions, including graphic visualisation of drum usage times. It is also said to be easy to use, allows decentralised operation from any local network as well as separating the functions of recipe development from actual recipe use and process monitoring at various company sectors.
