Pakistan’s leather exports fall

01/06/2005

According to Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics, the country’s leather exports fell by 2.10% to $69.89 million in April from $71.395 million in the previous month. The downward trend was said to be due to a decline in leather garment exports, which fell from $17.35 million to $11.87 million month-on-month.

It was not all bad news though as tanned leather exports rose 29.52% to reach $23.213 million compared with $17.922 million in the previous month. However, leather goods exports fell by 11.90% to $37.318 million and footwear exports dropped 16.34% to $9.362 million.

The trend in the leather sector is going against the general export trend in Pakistan which recorded an increase of 20.48% in overall exports in the first 10 months of the fiscal year.
