Kashmir and Jammu’s Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Mr. Raman Mattoo inaugurated a training and production centre for leather products in Srinagar on May 24.
At the ceremony, Mr. Mattoo said that the establishment of leather-based industry will open up job avenues for the unemployed and allow the area to develop in terms of technology and the quality of the leather produced.
Director, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai said that a broad-based Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the CLRI and the government of Jammu and Kashmir to initiate development programmes for the promotion of the leather industry in the region. It will train 10-12 trainees at a time in both leather goods and leather garment production, thereby providing trainer potential for 20-24 people at a time. Two trainers, one for leather garments and another for leather goods will be employed at the centre.
