PLGMEA proposes rebate on leather exports

19/05/2005

Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has urged the government to introduce a 6% rebate on the export of leather garments. This rebate already exists for textile exports.

Chairman of the PLGMEA, Mr. Fawad Ijaz Khan, recently met with the Federal Minister for Textiles to request the rebate in order to provide a level-playing field for Pakistan’s exporters who are faced with strong competition from China. The PLGMEA believes this has caused the 28% decline in the leather garment exports in the period from July to December 2004.
