During March 2005, Pakistan's leather sector achieved growth of 11.74% to reach $71.695 million compared with $64.161 million in the previous month. This increase has been attributed to a rise in footwear and other leather goods exports.
According to data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan exported finished leather worth $17.922 million, leather goods of $42.360 million and footwear worth $11.413 million in March compared with $17.711 million, $37.269 million and $9.121 million respectively in the prior month. This showed an increase of 0.85% for finished leather, 13.66% for leather goods and 25.13% for footwear.
Meanwhile, exports for the first nine months of the financial year (July 2004-March 2005) reached $632.215 million compared with $553.126 million in same period last year an increase of 14.30%.
