New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Helen Clark, has welcomed Vietnam’s Prime Minister on a visit to celebrate thirty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During the visit the two Prime Ministers signed a Joint Declaration of Co-operation providing a framework for many areas of collaboration between the countries.
“There is much we are doing together now and there is much more we can achieve in the coming years. Trade between New Zealand and Vietnam will grow in importance. The two way trade between us was worth $248 million in the year to December 2004,“ stated Ms Clark.
Vietnam’s largest exports to New Zealand were furniture, footwear, engines and motors, whilst New Zealand’s main exports to Vietnam include dairy products, timber and leather.
The two countries will hold the first meeting of a Joint Trade and Economic Commission later this year in an attempt to further increase bilateral trade.
