Nike Inc. has announced it will pull its products from Sears department stores, depriving discount retailer Kmart of access to the brand in an attempt to protect its high-end image. The move will be effective from October 2005.

The decision follows Kmart’s purchase of Sears that has made it the third largest US retailer. Other famous athletic brands including Reebok, adidas and Sketchers are currently being sold by Sears and have, so far, showed no intention of withdrawing their products.
