According to Fujian customs officials, European countries, in particular Spain, were the largest importers of shoes from China’s Fujian region in the first two months of the year.

From January to February 2005, Fujian province exported 53.4 million pairs to European countries ($150 million), an increase of 19.82% on the same period of last year.

The Fujian footwear industry was relieved that the Elche incident which happened in Spain in September 2004 has not affected  imports from this region.
