Cattle producers sue US beef packers

25/04/2005

Cattle producers have brought a law suit against four US packing companies alleging that they unlawfully underpaid producers for certain cattle sold for slaughter between April 2, 2001, and May 11, 2001. The case is pending in United States District Court for the District of South Dakota.

The packing companies involved are Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., Cargill Meat Solutions, Swift Beef Company, and National Beef Packing Company. The packing companies all deny any wrongdoing. The court has ordered that the case be ready for trial in December 2005.
