Officials from Mexico's Agriculture Ministry have reported an outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza in the state of Durango, in northern Mexico. Prior to that, suspicions over bird flu led to a cull of some two million chickens at a Tyson Foods processing plant.
There are no reports on how it entered the country but Mexico has recently resumed imports of poultry from Texas, which was affected with low pathogen avian influenza last year. Since it was not a high pathogen strain, the finding was not reported to the World Health Organisation.
