Clarks closes UK factory

05/04/2005

British shoe manufacturer Clarks has announced the closure of its factory in Ilminster, Somerset - the county in which the company was founded in 1825.

The closure of the plant will result in the loss of 70 jobs as production is moved to one of the Company’s Asian facilities. This latest move means that the ‘British’ company now only has one plant still in operation in the United Kingdom.

Workers were informed of the closure in January this year.
