Polish businesses benefit from EU membership

25/03/2005

Since joining the European Union in may 2004 Polish businesses have been registering improved results and making larger investments thanks to easier access to international markets. Higher profits translate into higher production and improved quality, whilst the strong local currency (PLN) has brought down machinery prices.

Clothing and textile manufacturers have increased their investments despite earlier concerns regarding their sustainability. A rising number of these are investing heavily into distribution channels and setting up their own retail chains.

Industries which have nearly doubled their investments since 2003 include the petrochemical, furniture and rubber sectors.
