23/03/2005

The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has informed its members that the Pakistani Mission in the US announced that the United States has restored a Generalised System of Preference (GSP) for 14 Pakistani products groups reducing customs duties on various products. Seven of these products will now be duty-free, whilst the remaining seven will be traded under a concessional tariff ranging between 3 to 4.9%.

The new GSP rules affect: leather or part leather gloves, mittens and mitts will now be taxed at 4.9%; leather boxing gloves at 3%; gloves specially designed for use in sports at 3.8%; leather ski or snowmobile gloves, mittens and mitts, at 3.5% and cross-country ski gloves, mittens and mitts, at 5.5%. Inflatable balls (football and soccer balls) can be imported duty free into the USA following the decision.
