Guangdong’s foreign trade increases 13.2%

According to statistics from Guangdong customs officials, during the first months of 2005, Guangdong province attained a gross foreign trade value of $49.57 billion, which equates to 27.6% of the total generated across the country.

 

Compared with the same period last year, Guangdong’s foreign trade value increased by 13.2%. Exports and imports amounted to $26.8 billion and $22.77 billion respectively, showing increases of 21.2% and 5.1%.

 

According to reports, in 2004, Guangdong’s GDP hit the highest level seen since 1996, reaching 134.5 billion yuan ($163.8 billion) - an increase of 13.6% over the previous year. The provincial government said that foreign trade played an important role in this and has now set a target of a further 5% increase for 2005.
