CLIA promotes the implementation of genuine leather mark

22/03/2005

The China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) has recently published eight measures to be taken this year in order to expand the use the genuine leather mark and make it more recognisable to consumers and companies domestically and abroad.

Mr. Shu Cao Ying, secretary-general of the CLIA, said that the CLIA has come to realise the importance of enforcing the genuine leather mark more and more, especially since China’s entry to WTO.

The key measures include popularising the image of the genuine leather mark through key leather fairs such as APLF and the All China Exhibition, designing an English-version of the mark, placing advertisements at trade centres and in industry media, holding regular seminars; promoting the leather goods quality competition, and conferring the genuine leather mark on more companies that reach the required standard.

The genuine leather mark was registered by the CLIA in 1994. Under Chinese law, if the CLIA confers the mark on certain goods, it becomes liable for any discrepancies in quality or harm caused by the products that bear the sign.
