Pakistan tanneries hit by water shortage

The tannery zone in the Korangi Industrial Area of Karachi has been facing an acute water shortage for some while which is said to be seriously affecting the production as and exports of leather and leathergoods.

 

In a letter to the managing director of  Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB), the chairman of the Pakistan Tanners’ Association (South Zone) Mian Ahsan Elahi, stated that the situation was extremely serious as Sector 7-A had not received a drop of water for over five days. Mian Ahsan stated that the executive engineer of KW&SB. Korangi, had given assurances in October last year that the water supply in Sector 7-A would be improved by the end of November but the situation has remained unchanged.
