Vietnam closer to producing bird flu vaccine
A Vietnamese bird flu vaccine has been successfully tested on monkeys by the country’s National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology. The animals are healthy three weeks after the injections and are reported to be producing antibodies.
Although a promising step forward in avian flu research, it will take more than six months from the end of successful human trials to produce a sufficient amount of human vaccine. The Institute is now preparing to launch a project worth $6.7 million for a large scale production of the H5N1 vaccine.
