Penny loafers re-emerge as spring trend in the USA

08/03/2005

Penny Loafers, the classic American fashion that defined the 1980s and the symbol of ‘cool’ in the 1950s and 1960s, have returned to fashion this spring. In the USA, Bass, part of Brown Shoe Group, is capitalising on the trend and has released its own line in the season’s popular pastels: pink, white and lime green.

The trend is often referred to as ‘preppy’ and stands for the rejection of ‘grunge.’ Available at BassShoes.com and Famous Footwear, the shoes are available in pastels for women and classic browns, burgundy and black for men.
