80% of shoe manufacturers in Jinjiang plan to expand

According to research carried out by Quanzhou Footwear Chamber of Commerce, around 80% of shoe manufacturers based in Jinjiang city plan to expand production and it is predicted that this will lead to Jinjiang’s output of shoes increasing by 50% in 2005.

A survey carried out by the government showed that many local shoe factories feel optimistic about the consumer market for 2005 to 2008 and that manufacturers will also concentrate on developing the quality of the footwear produced as well as increasing the quantity.

According to the official survey, China’s export of sport shoes will increase by 30% in 2005. With the approach of 2008 Beijing Olympic, forecasters believe that the domestic consumption of sport shoes will exceed the current annual growth of 30%.

Jinjiang already has over 3,000 sports shoe manufacturing factories, producing around 20% of the world’s sport shoes. The latest figure shows that around 45% of the shoes are sold in the domestic market and the rest are exported. The EU and USA are the largest export markets, importing 30% and 10% of Jinjiang’s sport shoes respectively.
