In an attempt to avoid incidents like those that occurred in Elche from happening in the future and to enhance communication between China’s shoe merchants in Spain and the local community, a Chinese Shoe Industry Association in Spain was established in mid February.

The opening ceremony was held on February 13 in the royal opera showplace in Benidorm. Officials from China’s embassy in Spain and representatives from the Spanish Footwear Association attended the ceremony.

The secretary-general of the association, Mr.Liu Jia zhen, said that so far over 80% of the Chinese shoe merchants in Elche have joined the association. The association will employ some Spanish staff including a local lawyer, added Mr. Liu.
