15/02/2005

According to recent figures released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in 2004, the US sold more than $2 billion worth of pork and more than 1 million metric tons of pork and pork variety meat products to export markets. 2004, therefore, marks the highest numbers ever reported and is the first year in history that in which the pork industry’s exports exceeded $2 billion.

The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has reported that US pork exports, including variety meat, to countries around the world totalled $2.227 billion in 2004, more than half a billion dollars more than the value of US pork exported in 2003. The export volume in 2004 was 1.023 million metric tons, adding yet another record breaking year to the past 13.

The previous record was set in 1989 and every year since the industry has exported more product.
