Pakistan to launch Industrial Information Network

15/02/2005

Pakistan’s first business portal for the textile and leather industry is to be launched in March. The concept, designed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), will initially focus on the textile and leather industries and provide business-to-business trade over the internet where queries and offers will be posted in search of buyers and suppliers. Pakistani businesses will also bear e-shops on IIN available for viewing by buyers. The project was initiated in March 2004 with a government three-year fund of PRs 40 million ($674,000).

IIN includes the following services: B2B, e-Marketing, trade markets information, trade leads, product catalogues, company directories, e-business in Pakistan, e-commerce facilities, raw material sourcing, industrial machinery information, financing information, comprehensive business loan information and advice, government rules and regulations, benefits, tax holidays, trade fair information, imports - exports information, rebate details, WTO/NAFTA bound tariffs database, special export zones (SEZ) info, and many more.

The service is expected to benefit all industries in the process of adjusting to the free trade era. Overseas companies will be able to access information on local manufacturers and suppliers of textiles, leather, footwear, silk, carpets, cotton, garments, knitwear, machineries non woven and other industries.
