Poland reports 22nd case of BSE

A new case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) has been detected in western Poland, according to the country's veterinary service. The disease was detected in a cow from a herd in Krzemieniec, the 22nd case reported since testing resumed in 2001.

The entire 262-head herd has been isolated. Currently vets are trying to establish how many animals in the herd were given the same fodder. Cows that came in contact with the infected animal will be slaughtered and burnt.
