Mixed results at I.L.M.
The recent I.L.M Essentials, the first of three International Leather Goods Fairs at Offenbach, near Frankfurt, in 2005, took a more subdued course than had been expected. 187 exhibitors from 17 countries were represented and showed their new collections of leather goods, bags, and travel articles.
With 3,700 visitors, attendance fell short of expectation and was down by some 200. On a positive note though, the international presence increased significantly: more than 23% of the trade visitors came from 40 countries worldwide came to see the I.L.M Essentials.
Despite the low turnout, many exhibitors were satisfied with the show corresponding with the time when orders for travel articles, school-, and outdoor goods are placed. Exhibitors were able to take advantage of a slightly improved mood in consumption and orders were a little higher compared to last year.
It was apparent, however, that some in the trade are waiting for the I.L.M Winter Styles that will highlight seasonal trends for autumn/winter, to place firm orders. This event will take place in Offenbach, April 2-4, 2005.
