SSL International plc has announced the proposed closure of its manufacturing facility in Derby, UK, which produces part of the company’s footcare range. Under this proposal, manufacture of these products would transfer to SSL’s facility in India.

According to the company, following consultation with employees and trade union representatives, a gradual run-down is planned, with the Derby site anticipated to close in December 2005 with the loss of 124 jobs. For the employees affected by this closure, SSL stated that it will provide a comprehensive package of support, including counselling and job search services.
