Bulgaria is to ask Brussels for additional funds from the EU SAPARD (Special Accession Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development) programme in support of the ongoing agriculture reforms and rural development in the country. According to the Agriculture Minister Mehmed Dikme, the amount of supplementary aid has not been specified. Minister Dikme claims he discussed the issue with the new EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Fisheries, Marian Fisher Boel, during the Berlin Green Week farming and food industry fair.
Bulgaria receives approximately €56 million annually since SAPARD launched its mission in the country in 2000.
