The Philippines’ agricultural output grew by 5.06% in 2004, amounting to P783.9 billion (US$14 billion) despite the disastrous effects of four typhoons, according to Agriculture Secretary, Arthur Yap.

Agricultural output surpassed the 2003 performance by 3.72% with increments last year in the crops, poultry and fishery sub-sectors. Crops generated a 4.89% increase in 2004 contributing 47.46% to agricultural production, while livestock posted a negative growth of 0.41%. This is attributed to the decline in hog and cattle production.
