The president of Pakistan’s Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME), Zulfikar Thaver, has urged the Pakistan Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock to approve a proposal for the development of cattle breeding farms all over the country. The breeding programme aims to increase productivity scientifically in order to address the problem of the high cost of cattle and meet the demands of consumers.
UNISAME has also urged the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), a government department, to develop sheep breeding farms in collaboration with Australia. This request was made following suggestions of lowering the cost of sacrificial animals.
In a statement the union said: "UNISAME has developed contact with a UAE firm which is prepared to finance the entire project and is prepared to conclude a buy back guarantee of 50,000 sheep per month on a progressive basis." UNISAME’s counterpart in Australia has also agreed to supply the parent sheep for initiating the breeding process.
