Fire breaks out in Bangladesh tannery

A large fire broke out in a privately owned tannery in Chittagong Port, Bangladesh on January 24, gutting the facility and causing damage worth more than Taka 4 million ($66,688).

 

According to fire brigade sources, the fire broke out at Deep Leather Limited in the Mohora industrial zone in Kalurghat district and spread quickly due to the chemicals and raw materials stored in the factory. It took five fire fighting units from different fire stations over an hour to extinguish the fire. No casualties were reported and a full investigation and an assessment of the damage are underway.
