Toyota USA beats sales record

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA, Inc., has reported record total year-end sales of 2,060,049 vehicles, up 10% over 2003. While breaking its sales record for the ninth consecutive year, it was the first time in TMS’ 47-year history it has reached sales of two million vehicles.

 

With record-breaking 2004 annual sales, Lexus retains its title as America's No.1-selling luxury brand for the fifth consecutive year. The automaker today reported total year-end sales of 287,927, up 10.5% over last year's record-breaking sales.

In addition to all-time best-ever sales, Lexus luxury utility vehicles enjoyed a record sales year, up 13.8% at 151,797 compared to 2003 totals of 132,935 units. The RX 330 was the luxury utility vehicle sales leader in 2004 with 106,531 units sold, an increase of 15% over the same period a year ago and the first Lexus to break 100,000 units in annual sales. The GX 470 mid-size luxury utility vehicle recorded annual sales of 35,420, a 12.5% increase over 2003.


The LX 470 premium luxury utility vehicle sold 9,846 units, a 6.8% increase over the previous year.

 

The Camry became the best-selling car in America for the third year in a row and seventh time in the past eight years (1997-2000, 2002-2004), With overall sales of 99,259 in 2004, Scion launched nationwide in June and was a significant contributor to the record sales year

 

There’s also good news for the company’s Thai division. According to reports, Toyota is planning to boost its production capacity in Thailand by 50% and is looking to increase sales in the region by 20% in the coming year.

 

It’s not only sales that the company is celebrating at the moment. It has announced that in honour of the second inauguration of President George W. Bush, Toyota will donate a unique Special Presidential Texas Edition Tundra Double Cab with Lucchese leather as a door prize at the Texas State Society's Black Tie & Boots gala. The salsa red pearl pickup truck will feature sandstone brown leather with ostrich leather accents, custom embossed seats with a "W" emblem in honour of the President, Lucchese embossed headrests and special Texas edition exterior badging.

 

In addition, Toyota has asked bootmaker T.O. Stanley to design and produce a pair of custom-made boots for the Texas Backstage Ball, to be raffled off to a lucky partygoer.
