UAE lifts Saudi Arabia livestock ban

18/01/2005

The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that it has lifted the ban on the import of livestock from Saudi Arabia. This move follows a report from the International Organisation for Animal Health that Saudi Arabia is now free from Rift Valley Fever.

Imports of livestock including goats, sheep, cattle, camels, and gazelle will now be accepted from the whole of Saudi Arabia with the exception of the Gizan area, which is still reporting a number of cases of infection. The decision to continue with the non-exportation from the Gizan region was taken by the Saudi government as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the disease to other areas.
