Payless ShoeSource joins tsunami relief

13/01/2005

Payless Shoe Source, a major retailer of low-priced family footwear in the Western Hemisphere, has joined the list of companies donating money or resources to the tsunami-hit region. It has announced the donation of $30.000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund. The company says is will also utilise its nearly 5,000 stores to post window posters advising shoppers to give cash donations.

The posters will promote a website of the United States Agency for International Development that includes information on over 80 non-government organisations (NGOs) that are collecting cash donations and understand the specific needs of the region.

“Like people all across the nation and around the world we at Payless were saddened by the terrible disaster and the significant level of devastation in South Asia” said Steven Douglass, the company’s chairman and CEO.
