Dongyi ships shoes to Elche

11/01/2005

Despite the problems faced by Chinese companies in Elche, Spain in recent months (see leatherbiz.com 28.9.2004), the Dongyi shoe company has taken the decision to ship 100,000 pairs of shoes – produced in China’s Whenzhou – to its store in Elche. This move is said to show confidence in the European markets, especially Spain, following an incident in September in which two warehouses and a truck were set alight during protests against cheap imports of shoes from China.

Sales manager of the Spanish market division of Dongyi, Zhu Jiang Chuan, said that Dongyi had looked into to the incident closely and researched the Spanish market thoroughly following the Elche indident. He stated that Dongyi still believe that there is great potential in the Spanish market because most of the shoe factories in the country are small and cannot meet demand, as Spain consumes large quantities of shoes and imports over 40 million pairs of shoes from Asia per year.

In the meantime, Dongyi has managed to secure two orders from German shoe chain, Deichmann, and the company said it is confident of winning more business in the future.
