Subsidy approved for Pakistan leather garment exports

06/01/2005

Following months of wrangling between the Pakistan Leather Garment Manufacturers’ and Exporters’ Association (PLGMEA) and government bodies in Pakistan, a freight subsidy has finally been granted on leather garment exports. The Export Development Fund (EDF) approved a 25% subsidy on air and sea shipments on January 4, 2005 that will run from January 1 to December 31, 2005.

The EDF also approved the purchase of computerised pattern making machines at $52,050 and embroidery machines to be sited at the Karachi and Sialkot offices of the PLGMEA, in a move to encourage the industry away from the manual machines that are currently being used.
