Cattle numbers decline in Ukraine
The number of cattle kept by all categories of Ukrainian breeders has dropped by 9.8% over the current year, to 7.4 million head, according to the country’s State Statistics Committee that published figures for a period ended on December 1, 2004.
The number of cows fell by 6.3% from December 1, 2003, to 4.16 million head. The number of pigs, kept by all categories of animal breeders, on December 1, 2004 was 7.13 million head, which is 11.4% lower than a year ago. The number of sheep and goats decreased 6% from last year to 1.87 million head. The only rise was registered in poultry with a 7.6% increase from December of 2003, to 165.16 million head.
