According to Herbert Hainer, chairman of the board at adidas, it is the company’s aim to double sales in Asia by 2009. Hainer presumes that Japan and China will soon be the biggest delivery areas in the world, after the USA. Adidas’ turnover in Asia was €1.116 billion in 2003, they are now aiming to increase their proceeds in the region to more than €2 billion in the next five years. Shoes, clothing, sports equipment for women and football equipment will be in the greatest demand according to Hainer.

With an increase of 23% in the volume of orders in the first nine months of this year, Asia has already seen the highest growth rate in the group. Sales in September 2004 reached €912 million - an increase of 12% in comparison with last year (€817 million).
